Welcome to SailTime Lymington

Sue Grey and I, Richard Pierpoint, own and operate SailTime Lymington and SailTime Hamble, which we have developed since 2005, with 12 boats and a rapidly growing "club" of members and owner-members in the Solent - 'the world's centre of yachting'

We believe the SailTime concept makes so much sense to so many people. However, we also believe that it is the delivery of the product, especially in terms of service and standards, which is so fundamental to our success. Add into the mix our integrated sail and power training through our own dedicated sailing school, Solent Nautical College, coupled with an all inclusive and active social programme, and you will see we provide a fantastic opportunity for members to enjoy, learn and include the whole family in a new lifestyle at tremendous value.

SailTime Lymington and SailTime Hamble is an enthusiastically run family business for the benefit of sailors and power boaters.

Apart from major and local boat shows, we organise monthly Open Days - please click on the 'Base Info and Events' page for the schedule of dates. We look forward to meeting you, showing you round our yachts and power cruiser and answering any questions you may have.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Richard and Sue

EXCLUSIVE SAILING WITHOUT THE COMMITMENT OF BUYING A BOAT!

With a low entry/exit cost and just a minimum 12 month commitment, SailTime makes great financial sense. No longer do you need to buy your own boat to enjoy exclusive access to a quality boat that is fully maintained, serviced, berthed and insured. We take care of the worry and costs whilst you enjoy your carefree sailing and power boating.

Additionally, as a SailTime member you automatically have access via SailTime Plus to sail from all our 60 plus locations both here in Europe and worldwide.

The Solent is recognised as the ‘world’s centre of yachting’, with some justification. Nowhere, in such a relatively small area, is there so much to do and so many places to visit, and where you can sail in protected waters in virtually all weathers. A prefect training location where you can experience the commercial ports and shipping at the Eastern Solent to areas of outstanding beauty of the New Forest National Park and renowned historical villages, such as Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu River in the Western Solent.

Enjoy sailing from the Yacht Haven Marina in Lymington, the 'jewel' and premier location in the Western Solent, or sail from Port Hamble, the premier location in the Hamble River, which in itself is the ‘mecca’ of yachting in the whole of the UK. Both locations have 24 hour tidal access.

At SailTime Hamble & Lymington we have two unique aspects to our business; our own integrated RYA Training Centre, Solent Nautical College, and a family inclusive and active social programme.

Solent Nautical College provides bespoke member training both for theory and practical from complete novice to Yachtmaster and beyond. You can enjoy individual training on your own SailTime boat; join in on group courses with other members (such as our Ladies Only Weekends), enjoy workshops, mile building or assisted sailing locally or across the Channel. Best of all our Chief Instructor is always there for advice and help at any time. For detailed course information link to the Solent Nautical College website. You do not have to be a SailTime member to take advantage of our wide range of RYA practical and theory courses along with specialist courses in Radar, Sea Survival, Diesel Engine Maintenance, First Aid and VHF. Please visit our Solent Nautical College website below for details:- www.solentnauticalcollege.co.uk

Equally distinctive is our all inclusive social programme. We have over 80 members before adding on partners, children and friends, and as such we are able to run a number of well attended events throughout the year. They are a great way to meet others with the same interests, build friendships and add another dimension to your sailing and lifestyle experience. Use our exclusive Members Forum to help you do more sailing, find crew or just swap stories or tips.

If you would like to chat about sailing from Lymington or Hamble, would like more information on training, or are interested in seeing our boats and their location, please call us anytime:-

For information please call Richard on 07809 44 44 80 or Sue on 07809 44 44 90 or General Office on 01590 688 008

We are located at Lymington Yacht Haven, Kings Saltern Road, Lymington, Hampshire. Map to SailTime Lymington.

The very attractive Georgian market town of Lymington lies at the western end of the Solent, just 3 miles from the Needles Channel. Besides the numerous attractions and activities to be found in the town itself, Lymington also benefits from having the recently designated National Park status of the New Forest, with its wild ponies, wonderful walks and picturesque scenery, on its doorstep.

The Yacht Haven, where we have our fleet, is the first of the two marinas as you are approaching up the river, situated on the port hand side, offering immediate access into The Solent. It is only a 10 minute walk to the town centre with its numerous restaurants, pubs, shops and colourful Saturday market. The marina has first class amenities and restaurants. If you are staying on board you will appreciate the exceptionally natural and beautiful setting. The west end of the Solent is much less frantic than elsewhere in the Solent, and an altogether more relaxing location to cruise from.

From Lymington there is a wide choice of wonderful places to sail. Just across the Solent on the Isle of Wight sits Yarmouth, a delightful fishing port. Further down the coast from here you will find Newtown River, a wonderful place to anchor. Cowes, the thriving yachting centre is only a 2 to 3 hour sail away. Hurst Castle and the Beaulieu River are all within easy reach. Regardless of the tide or weather, there is always a delightful sheltered anchorage to tuck up into close by.

Going west you can sail into Christchurch and Poole Harbour (the second largest natural harbour in the world), and for the more adventurous sailor you can cruise down to the West Country, passing Weymouth, the River Dart and on, all past some of the most beautiful coastline in the UK.

  • Yachtmaster Theory (both correspondence based or classroom)
  • VHF
  • Sea Survival (1 or 2 day course)
  • First Aid
  • Diesel Engine Maintenance

Our on the water courses include:-

  • Yachtmaster Coastal (5 or 6 day)
  • Yachtmaster Offshore (5 or 6 day), and..
  • Skills workshops, assisted passages, mile building, offshore sailing and Ladies Only weekends.

Bowline KnotYou do not need to be a SailTime Member to undertake any course, but through our SailTime programme we can add real additional benefits such as frequent access to a boat, one-to-one or family tuition, and ongoing guidance and training assistance.

SailTime is a great way to build confidence and expertise for you and your family in a fun and safe environment. It is simply the best way to get the most for the least cost and in a very pleasurable way.

When you join SailTime we will do a 2-day private induction to get you familiar with your boat and its systems. If you need or want training we will provide the courses that you require to get you to our minimum standard of Day Skipper Tidal. You will be up and away in no time at all, knowing that there will always be an instructor about that can help you or give advice at any time. We are here at all times to hold your hand.......... but only when you want it.

We look forward to helping you achieve your goals.

Senior Chief Instructor - Bill GardnerSolent Nautical College is headed up by our Senior Chief Instructor, Bill Gardner. Bill has worked extensively in The Solent and the Caribbean and has been instructing RYA Courses for nearly 10 years and comes with a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience in the marine industry.

For over 8 years Bill was the helmsman for the St Abbs lifeboat up in Berwickshire, and as a result you could say has seen it all! Bill was the Senior Instructor for the United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA) for 2 years, before becoming their Acting Chief Instructor.  He was subsequently appointed  Sailing Secretary to the Island Sailing Club responsible for Round the Island Races, as well as marketing and running a fleet of 9 Sonar yachts.

Bowline KnotIn July 2006 Bill became Principal of the Island Sailing Club’s RYA shore based training school.  A year later Bill moved on to establish his own sailing business as a Yachtmaster Instructor in Sail, a Cruising Instructor in Power, a Yachtmaster Instructor in Theory, as well as being an MCA Assessor and Instructor.

Additionally Bill teaches STCW course modules of fire fighting, personal survival techniques, and personal safety and social responsibility for a number of MCA registered schools including the National Sea Training Centre in Kent where he also teaches candidates taking their commercial Ships Security Certificate.

Places to Go

Yarmouth, Isle of Wight

Flexible Solent yacht charter from LymingtonThe most western harbour on the Isle of Wight, Yarmouth is not only a convenient passage stopover, but has become a very desirable destination in its own right with virtually all weather and tidal access. With the exception of the town quay, the way ashore is by dinghy or water taxi. Yarmouth is a delightful fishing, ferry and yachting port, widely regarded as one of the jewels of the south coast. There are many fine restaurants and amenities. One of its primary features is the castle, constructed in 1547 by order of Henry VIII. The Harbour is not recommended for comfort in strong northerlies or north-easterlies, but is otherwise snugly sheltered.

Newtown River, Isle of Wight

Lymington yacht share on the SolentThe uninformed visitor to the magical Newtown River would never for a moment imagine the depth and length of its history. Said to date back to Roman times, the port of Newtown was sufficiently prosperous in 1001 to warrant sacking by the Vikings! Now overgrown tracks are all that remain of the busy streets, and nature, with her oak woods and salt marshes, remains unchallenged. The river is owned and administered by the National Trust. A favourite place for yachts and small water craft to put down anchor and spend the night.

Cowes, Isle of Wight

Situated virtually in the centre of the Solent lies Cowes on the Isle of Wight. This beautiful seafaring town is at the mouth of the Medina River which, on favourable tides, is navigable for 4 miles up to the island's capital, Newport. Cowes is world famous amongst sailors for its yearly regatta in early August, which spans a whole week of racing and fun!

Beaulieu River & Buckler's Hard

Enjoy Lymington yacht ownership on the SolentThe Beaulieu River is a small river, which flows south through the New Forest. The river is some 12 miles long, of which the last 4 miles are tidal. The name is pronounced BEW-lee. A short sail to the river will take you to Buckler’s Hard –picturesque 18th century village on the banks of the river. Historically, it is famed as the place where some of the ships of Nelson's fleet were built.

Hamble (SailTime Base)

The 'mecca' of yachting on the south coast, whose origins in maritime history go as far back as the 9th Century when King Alfred's men sank as many as 20 Viking long ships at Bursledon! It was also here that Nelson's flagship in the Battle of Copenhagen 'Elephant' was built in the 18th Century and a striving shipyard is there to this day bearing the same name. Today, particularly during the summer months, river life is a hive of activity and the village is bustling with sailors and visitors. The River Hamble is at the heart of the sheltered waters of the Solent and protected from the open sea by the Isle of Wight, and benefiting from a two hour stand at high water. Our boats are based in Port Hamble Marina, where members enjoy all the ‘Berth Holder’s’ privileges you have 24 hour tidal access.

Christchurch

Solent bareboat charter all year from LymingtonOnce an important commercial port and now silted up, Christchurch Harbour remains an interesting and surprisingly beautiful place to visit, if your draught permits. The town has many facilities and the environment of the harbour is surprisingly unspoilt. Here you will find a salt marsh, reefs, dunes and woodland, and the river winding up to the confluence of the Stour and the Avon at Christchurch Quay.

Poole Harbour

Affordable Solent charters from LymingtonThe second largest natural harbour in the world and the largest in Europe, Poole Harbour is considered by many to be among the finest. It can be entered day or night and at all states of the tide. Much of the area is shoal, but there is still plenty of deep water for ships and yachts in great numbers. Its north side incorporates several modern marinas in close proximity to a multitude of shops and restaurants, while its south side boasts tranquil anchorages set within unspoilt nature reserves. On Poole Quay, with its excellent choice of bars and restaurants, there are several places of interest, including the well known Poole Pottery and Waterfront Museum in Old High Street.
